Kay HarrisonOwner/Teacher, Piano/Wind InstrumentsKay Harrison started piano at the age of five. She was not given a choice as her mother desired that she played. Kay advanced quickly and by fifth grade she was playing Beethoven and Rachmaninoff. She began teaching at 13 when the only piano teacher in her small town moved. She continued teaching through her teen years. Kay studied music education at Evangel University where she studied piano with Dr. June Kean and saxophone with Beth McLellan. After rehabilitating from a near fatal accident in 1974, Kay began to teach out of her home. In 1995 she became the band director at Crosspoint Christian School. At the same time she began teaching band, jazz band and choir to homeschoolers. In 1997 Kay moved her studio into a large commercial building. Seventeen years ago she moved the studio to Sullivan. She teaches band instruments, piano and harp. Kay expects her students to excel in their music education always helping them reach their goals. She has taught Down’s syndrome students, students with autism, students with developmental problems and students who excelled and achieved perfect ACT scores. No matter the ability of the student, Kay tries to bring them to their highest level of excellence. Above all that though, she points students to the Giver of their gifts and reminds them that in all situations, we live, we sing, we play all for an audience of One.

Susan EyeViolin, Viola Teacher, Homeschool Chamber Orchestra DirectorSusan Eye has been giving private violin lessons at Kay’s Music Studio for over 17 years. She also gives viola lessons and teaches homeschool string classes including a 4-section chamber orchestra. She has been playing the violin for nearly 50 years and enjoys playing at church and performing at weddings. Susan grew up in the Chicago area in a school district with a very strong music program in which she was a violinist in various orchestras for 9 years, as well as taking private lessons. She played in the String Ensemble at Greenville University where she also sang in the A Cappella Choir and studied music theory. Susan has always had a passion for teaching and actually homeschooled her own children for 10 years. She strives to equip students with a solid technique foundation, with excellent intonation and tone production, and with a thorough knowledge of music theory in order to meet their performance goals.

Emily SticklerFlute/Guitar/Piano/Vocal/Homeschool Choir TeacherEmily Stickler teaches piano, voice, flute, and guitar lessons. She has had the privilege of teaching lessons at Kay’s Music Studio for 13 years. She earned her A.A. in Music at East Central College, focusing on voice. As a teenager, she never expected to pursue a career in music, but her joy in teaching caused her to change her mind. That joy has grown even greater over the years with time and experience. In 2018 she started teaching the homeschool choir program and finds it a blessing to come back to where her passion for voice began. Emily desires to instill in her students a pursuit of excellence – excellence in music and excellence of character.

Abby MartinPiano/Guitar Teacher
Abby Martin feels music is her life. At 5 days old her uncle held her while playing the steel guitar during church and that has been her heartbeat ever since. Abby began taking private piano lessons at Kays Music Studio when she was 5 years old. Joining the homeschool program at age 7. Through this she learned to play multiple instruments the main ones being: piano, alto saxophone, violin, and guitar. Upon graduation, she has been working on advancing her music education to obtain a degree in musical therapy. Her love for music is evident in the different facets she can be found playing whether in her weekly nursing home visits, church services, family get togethers, school or community functions.
